The mermaids in mermaid tattoos are invariably inked with long flowing hair which appears to be waving seductively in the water. When this polluted moisture falls to the ground, acid rain is created. Industrial pollution is the major cause of acid rain. The biggest causes of acid rain are cars and big industries. This acid rain created by man himself has proven very damaging to the environment every day. There is an immediate need to find better solutions to acid rain creation and reverse the damages done to nature.

The trauma resulting from my near death, passing of my mother-in-law, mother, father, and unborn son was a real strain on our marriage. Michael and I had married just 6 months before the losses began, and I felt robbed of a normal honeymoon period. Making matters worse was our drastically differing coping styles: I was openly a wreck while he did not express as much angst. This difficulty was compounded by the fact that I was in more anguish than he was. Michael, unfortunately, simply did not know how to respond to me, even if I was his wife.

It is now nearing the 8th anniversary of the worst day of my lifethat day on which my father was crushed by a flying empty tank on the highway, I went into cardiac arrest, and our unborn son died. While nothing can be done to remove the horrid memory of that day, Im happy to report that this lonelinessthis inability to speak comfort to one another, is no longer a problem for us. However, the road to truly being there for each other wasnt randomly stumbled upon. My husband had to literally be trained on what to say, and I had to learn to give him some grace when he just didnt get it.

As I travel and speak, it is not uncommon for hurting people to approach me after the event. It seems these folks fall into one of two groups: 1) those wounded by life, and 2) those wounded by their seemingly inability to handle the hardship of their hurting loved one. Now several years later, I finally see that I wasnt the only one in turmoil back then. Indeed, only a truly sick person can stomach the sight of the one they cherish in pain. Watching in horror and not knowing what to do can be almost as hard as living the nightmare.

So what can be done to help your hurting friend? Of first importance is hearing the struggling persons story. We can assist them by repeating back what they have said with new clarity. The main goal is to keep the conversation from shutting down with statements that imply This about me. People say this when they communicate, I already know how you feel because the same thing happened to me, or You hurt me too! You can keep the healing process going if you avoid telling the other person that they are wrong or stupid. Phrases like, This isnt so bad. All things happen for a reason, or God must have a special plan for you and thats why this is happening, will leave the person feeling invalidated. Such statements have been known to deepen the sadness, as this is the natural rebellion against such ignorant displays of insensitivity. Its a vicious cycle: the hurting expresses pain→ someone responds without empathy, usually without meaning to→ the pain is increased for both parties, and round and round we go.

Instead of making matters worse, we can ask for more information and agree that what is occurring is, in fact, very difficult. We can point to the goodboth in them and in the possibilities for a better day. Hope is always present, but we mustnt rush the processing of pain.

And so here is a basic map for youa little acronym you can think of the next time you come across a friend in pain. Remember it when you attend your next funeral. Use it when a colleague shares her devastating news. Memorize it for times when your spouse comes home feeling angry or depleted.

M. is for Moresay something that will encourage the other person to keep talking. A thoughtful question will usually do the trick. Just make sure your inquiries arent loaded with your own opinions, and you will have made a huge stride in being there for the one you care about. In short, find a way to get them to open up about their story.

A. is for AgreeAs I sat on a four hour flight to speak on this very topic, I found it a challenge to find common ground with the atheist sitting next to me; however, it wasnt that hard once I made a concerted effort to find general themes we could agree upon. No matter how crazy the idea might seem to you, there is some aspect of the story you can identify with. If nothing else, you can say, Yep. That is a problem. I have no idea what needs to be done about that, but Im glad you are thinking it over, or I agree that should not have happened.

M. is for Morerepeat trying to get more information.

A. is for Agreefind another aspect of their experience that you can validate.

G. is for Goodpoint to something good about how the hurting person is handling the situation or a possible positive outcome that might be yet to come. Try This must be so hard. I cant believe how well you are coping, or I dont understand why this happened, but Im looking forward to seeing the good that is in your future. I liked it when a friend said to me, I can only imagine how you feel. I know I dont know if I could make it through this, but you obviously are. After you have heard your loved one out and have validated their experience and feelings, you will have earned the right to speak hope into their situation. Try this before doing the leg work, and theyll likely tune you out. The hurting person simply MUST be heard.

I call this little map that leads to empathy and healing MAMA G, and Im going to guess that the Brost household isnt the only one in need of her wisdom. Perhaps you would like to make a bed for MAMA G and let her move in with you. She might not do the dishes but she will extinguish blazing tempers and heal old wounds.

One things for sure, whoever you are, wherever youve been, wherever you will go, as long as you walk this earth hard times will come and hard times will go. For some of us, it feels as though the hardship never lets up. And yet, if we offer love to others and do it in such a way that they can feel secure in our presence, we might just heal together.

Taking care of a young baby, running your own business, and training for a marathon takes a lot of planning, flexibility, determination, and drive. So, over the past few months I have come up with a proven method for doing all three and have still managed to maintain my sanity, and a decent sleep schedule. Here are a few steps I recommend…

1. Plan your day. With a young baby this can be a bit of a challenge but it is critical. Writing down everything you are going to do every day and having a plan will allow you to be flexible when things do not go as you hoped.

2. Be consistent. If you ask any successful athlete what has contributed to their success, 9 out of 10 will say being consistent with their training has been a major factor. This does not mean you have to go out and do hard work outs every day or that you cannot miss a run; however, it does mean that you need to remain on track and run as much as you can whenever you can. It is not the single workout but the repeated effort that gets results.

3. Forgive yourself if you miss a workout. Do not waste any time or energy on feeling guilty. Just pick it up again tomorrow. If you find you are consistently missing 2 or more workouts a week, reevaluate your schedule and change it up a bit. Maybe try working out in the morning instead of in the afternoon when the business of the day seems to pile up.

4. Hire a babysitter. If you are dying to do a long trail run and you cannot find anyone who can help you out, hire a babysitter and get out there. It may seem like a crazy way to spend money but you will enjoy every minute of it and it will do wonders for your motivation. Sometimes all we need to stay motivated for the week is one amazing run.

5. Work out at the same time every day. Make it a habit that is part of your schedule and that your baby or child comes to expect. I used to work out at random times during the day, whenever I could fit it in and my little girl Dylan was “ready”. I found that my day felt very fractured and I never got into a groove. Now, I work out at the same time every day and Dylan runs with me and expects it like she expects her daily naps.

6. Eat well, drink a lot of water, and stretch. These three things alone will help you run better, run more, and recover quickly.

7. Find a running buddy. Hook up with someone who is on a similar “road” as you. You can both strap your kids into the jogging strollers and head for the hills. I always find I come up with my best ideas when I am running and it is great to be able to share the joys, stresses, and victories of life with someone else. Some of the best relationships I have with people began when we would run together. Also, it is much harder to bail on a run when someone is waiting on you.

8. Have fun. Just because you have a million other things going on and it took everything you had to get out for your run, remember to have fun and to continue to connect with why you run in the first place. Running is a joy and a gift and it makes you feel more alive than you have ever felt. Slow down and enjoy the ride.

The marlin fish caught in Kenya big game sport fishing can weigh anywhere from a 100lb to well over 1000lb, indeed the heavies fish ever caught on rod and line in Kenyan waters was a 1,248lb blue marlin caught on march 1995 aboard the Kingfisher boat Neptune out of Malindi.

This humongous great fish is displayed along with many other fish for all to admire on the walls of the Malindi Sea fishing Club (MSFC). The MSFC is a truly wonderful place, steeped in angling history, where not surprisingly the conversation is invariably of fish, fishing and fishermen, and where they make what is undoubtedly the finest prawn curry in the world!

Nocturnal Broadbill sword fish

There are barely a handful of destinations scattered around the world where that most elusive member of the billfish clan, the nocturnal broadbill swordfish is regularly caught; Kenya is probably the best, fishing for these elusive fish involves an overnight trip, which in itself is a wonderful experience.

Broadbill are caught year round but the prime time is generally regarded as being January-March when the seas offshore are generally at their calmest. Boats target broadbill out of Malindi, Watamu and Shimoni, often on extended 30-hour trips to distant areas such a the legendary North Kenya Banks, and often it is during the daytime on these trips that anglers encounter outstanding sport marlin, large tuna and many other species.

The giant Trevally

In recent years the giant Trevally has become something of a cult angling species, and yet again Kenya offers the visiting angler an excellent chance of doing battle with this immensely powerful members of the jack family. Giant trevally, or GTs are commonly known to live over reefs and banks, often in large shoals of fish that can include individual specimens in excess of 100lb.

A few years back it was the early part of the season that was considered prime GT time, but in recent years exceptional fishing has been experienced through out the entire season, almost certainly as a direct result of a significantly increased amount of angling effort specifically targeting trevally that these days are tagged and released. Over a dozen other species of trevally can be caught in Kenyan waters.

The yellow fin tuna

Tuna notably the yellow fin tuna found in such abundance off the coast of Kenya are one of the strongest fish in the sea; guaranteed to raise a sweat on the brow of even the fittest angler! School size yellow fin tuna, fish from 10-40lb, can be caught through out the season, usually in abundance and occasionally in such numbers that they can even become a nuisance when attempting to target other species, but at such times, you are guaranteed an action packed day followed by a plate of the finest sushi!

The biggest yellow fin tuna, fish that in recent years have included specimens to over 220lb, have appeared in August and September, but be warned, fighting these brutally strong fish is certainly not for the unfit or faint hearted! Several other species of Tuna can also be caught in these waters including skip jack, long tail, big eye and kawa- kawa- the eastern little tunny that are widely referred to as bonito.

Tiger and Mako sharks

Many species of shark can be encountered off the Kenyan coast, but in recent years it is the fearsome tiger shark that has attracted most attention from anglers. A sizeable population of tiger sharks has been located off Watamu and when these fish are in feeding mode, which is more often than not, hooking one, can almost be described as a formality; successfully playing a hooked tiger shark to the boat to be tagged and released is entirely another matter!

These wonderful apex predators average from 300-800lb but many 1,000lb plus specimen are caught, tagged and released each season. Giant bull sharks of similar proportions are also occasionally encountered and while mush rarer, the much prized mako shark is another species that is occasionally encountered by anglers fishing off Kenya.

In addition to the major species listed above, a days offshore fishing in the Indian Ocean off the coast of East Africa will almost invariably produce many other species including highly sought after species such as the incredibly fast Wahoo, the gloriously coloured and sweet tasting dorado or felusi as its known in Swahili, and lets not forget the large snapper and grouper that can be caught fishing baits or lures near the bottom. Two species of barracuda, king mackerel-known as kingfish, cobia, rainbow runner and many others can all be encountered on a typical days fishing off Kenya.

Journals of an avid angler

I have fished in this wonderful; country for over 10 years, during which time Ive made some 16 trips to the coast averaging four-five days fishing per visit, thats around 70 days fishing off the Kenyan Coast. Sure Ive had a few quiet days but Ive never had a day when Ive caught nothing, while on other days Ive almost wished the fish would go off the feed to give me a rest!

Each year I fish extensively around the would, frequently visiting exotic countries and enjoying world class sports fishing, but Kenya remains my all time ultimate angling destination. Ive said it before and Ill say it again, were I ever restricted to fishing just one week a year in tropical waters, then I would not hesitate in choosing Kenya as a destination. If nothing else, the prospects of a plate of curried prawns at the Malindi Sea Fishing Club and an icy cold beer or two would be sufficient to bring me back.

Minor assembly is required, but is very simple to do with the help of a few basic tools and a detailed set of instructions.
